About RV Questions and Answers

.HI I’m Larry Vanstone.

I’ve taken to calling myself a Lucky RV Professional lately.  Let me explain. I’ve been an avid RV’er since we moved out of the tent and got our first  hard top tent trailer over forty years ago.

I have been working in the RV industry for almost 35 years and during that time we have progressed through a truck camper, a  van conversion and numerous motor homes.  There was even a fifth wheel in there at one point. For the last four years my wife and I have been full-timing in our coach. That picture to the left is our house with our attached toad.

We live in our RV 24/7, I now work in the RV industry part time in the summers and we travel full time in the winters. We then repeat…and repeat the process.

OK, fair enough you say, I guess you qualify as a professional and that’s kind of lucky but I want more.

I remember a day back in the mid 70′s. I was sitting in a camp chair, feet up on a stump and a cold beverage in my hand, gazing at my family playing around our truck and new camper.  On that day I remember thinking “Larry, this is so much fun you should be doing this for a living.” People need to know about this.

Within a couple of years I was selling RV’s and things have never looked back.

I am passionate about the RV industry and about everything RV. It’s that passion that  got this website going. We love to travel, all the neat people we meet and  the amazing friends we have met in RV parks all over Canada, the USA and Mexico.

My goal for this website is to help anyone and everyone  interested in RV’ing  get out here so they too can enjoy this amazing lifestyle. If you are thinking RV, tell me how I can help.

On our personal web page  we often tell stories about our RV experiences. sometimes those stories are even true.

Sometime when you have a minute come join us at the Amazing Vanstones .

On Facebook I’m Larry Vanstone or  on Twitter I’m  @LarryVanstone or email me at mrmotorhome@yahoo.com  Any way you want, I look forward to meeting you.

Who knows, maybe we’ll meet  out on the road someday. I know I can’t wait to meet you.

  1. I would like to get solar panels to charge the battery on my pop-up camper so that I can run the propane heater at my remote hunting site. I have a couple questions.

    1) Will a large deep cycle battery last all night just running the heater fan?
    2) How large of a solar panel (15w, 30w, etc.) will I need to recharge the battery during the day?

  2. Hi Larry,

We have a choice between a 2001 Fleetwood Discovery 37V and a 2001 Fleetwood Bounder 39Z…all other things being equal – price, condition…which is the better deal?

    Thanks,
    Sandra

  3. Hi Sandra
I assume they are both Diesel Pushers. They are pretty much the same motor home. Discovery is one up from Bounder in the Fleetwood scheme of things and probably sold for about 10% more when they were new. Basically the same coach with a few more features. The Discovery will probably have a little bigger engine, and a dressed up interior, things like that. Which one do you like the best? If they are both in good shape with similar features and mileage go with what feels best. Either one should work just fine for you.
Whichever one you choose, you will love the lifestyle. Safe Travels, Larry

  4. I was looking at your manufactures list and wondering why you do not list Coachmen?

  5. Maybe because Coachmen is now just a Forest River brand? As I recall when I did up this list they were kind of in limbo.

  6. I have a 1987 24′ Fleetwood Southwind with an Onan Emerald1 Gen. I am about to pull my hair out figuring out how to change such a simple thing as the air filter on the generator. It has the 2 steel walls on both sides, cannot get to the bolts that hold them on, no clearance to get to the bolt that holds the filter cover on, the filter cover would not be able to go forward enough even if i got the bolt off, What a design, What do I do??? thanks

  7. Hi Paul. I’m not a mechanic so I can’t answer that question but I can help. I would go to the Class A forum on RV.Net (www.rv.net/forums) and post your question. You’ll quickly have an answer

  8. Thanks Larry, Paul

  11. Hi Bobby. Sorry for the delay getting back to you. We have been travelling in non-internet areas for the past few days. The answer, if you are looking for a house battery is a Deep Cycle 12 volt battery.
